Regular wellness exams allow us to catch underlying health problems early, provide consistent preventative care, and support your pet’s overall health and well-being.
Our veterinarians are skilled in diagnosing common problems that affect our pets like vomiting, itching, lumps, limping, and more.
Vaccines are essential for preventive care and can increase the chances of a longer, happier life for pets. Ensuring that pets are consistently up to date with their vaccinations can help prevent contracting disease or help lessen the severity of symptoms if a disease is contracted.
Another key component of helping to maintain your pet’s health and happiness is having them on reliable, consistent heartworm preventative.
Heartworm disease is serious and potentially fatal to our dogs and cats. Heartworms are spread by mosquito bites and can grow up to a foot long, living in the heart and lungs of our beloved pets.
Fleas can cause itchy skin, skin infections, and spread tapeworms. Ticks can carry disease such as Lyme Disease, Ehrlichiosis, and more.
From routine cleanings to tooth extractions, the Thrive Pet Healthcare network of Primary Care veterinarians and Dental Specialists is here to keep your pet's smile fresh! Our general practices can take care of everyday dental maintenance with outstanding regular check-ins, cleanings, and basic surgeries.
Meanwhile, our specialty veterinarians are prepared to handle more complex or chronic dental cases like a root abscess, jaw fracture, abnormal tooth formation, or advanced periodontal disease. These doctors are highly trained within the field of veterinary dentistry and have access to specialized equipment, typically unavailable at primary care clinics.
Unless you intend to breed, we recommend having pets spayed or neutered. Pets that have been spayed or neutered tend to live longer and have healthier lives.
It's hard to provide care without knowing the root of what is ailing your pet, which is why diagnostic testing is so important. Diagnostic testing can include laboratory testing (blood, urine, and fecal) and diagnostic imaging like X–rays, CT, MRI, and ultrasound.
We will be by your side during this time of need to offer both medical assistance and emotional support.
The occasional taps, scrapes, and scratches that happen when playing with your pet means it's time for a trip to your local veterinarian or boarding facility! Trimming your pet's nails is a healthy part of their life, and can lead to greater comfort in everyday activity.
DVM
Amanda Sharp, DVM, graduated from Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2012. She attended A&M in College Station for undergraduate studies in Biomedical Sciences and was accepted into vet school as a junior. Needless to say, she is a very proud Fightin’ Texas Aggie! While in vet school, Dr. Sharp developed a traveling internship to further her professional mixed animal experiences. She set out to further her education after graduation on the Navajo reservation (Arizona/New Mexico), where she performed mixed animal mission work, in Colorado and Wyoming, working with an ambulatory livestock company, in Oklahoma, working with cattle at sale barns and in privately-owned settings, and in Virginia, at a distinguished Equine clinic. She worked as a mixed animal practitioner for a short time in East Texas, but quickly learned her passion is in serving companion animals. Dr. Sharp moved back to the metroplex in May 2013 and is so happy to be in the Canyon Creek neighborhood! Dr. Sharp’s passions include animal behavior/training, veterinary dentistry, and mission work. She was raised in Old East Dallas by her wonderful parents and has two younger siblings. She enjoys cooking, hiking, water sports, snow skiing, and spending time with her pets-- Cheyenne and Solomon (German Shepherd Dogs) and Kahlo (cat). She married Stephen in 2021.
DVM & Medical Director
Morgan Ferrell, DVM, graduated Abilene Christian University with an undergraduate degree in Biology, then Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine, earning her DVM in 2013. Dr. Ferrell worked for Hillside Veterinary Clinic directly after graduation, but has also spent time at our sister practices, Prestonwood Pet Clinic and Rowlett Veterinary Clinic; she was thrilled to make Canyon Creek Animal Clinic her full-time practice in 2015. Dr. Ferrell has an array of veterinary interests, but most enjoys teaching her clients about preventive care and nutrition. Dr. Ferrell has also begun studying small animal acupuncture, and has started to provide this service to our patients. When not at work, she loves spending time with her family and friends. Dr. Ferrell and her husband are high school sweethearts from Weatherford, TX. They have two daughters Addyson and Paisley, and two dogs a mix named Leroy and a Cavalier King Charles named Salgood. With their free time, the Ferrells participate in their church, play golf, do yoga, and watch soccer.
DVM
Ryley Carman, DVM, joined Canyon Creek Animal Clinic in July of 2021 after graduating from Washington State University. Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Carman attended the University of Texas- Permian Basin, majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management. In her early life, Dr. Carman grew up just north of Salt Lake City, Utah where she nurtured her love of animals from a young age. Dr. Carman is so excited to be back in Texas, to bring us her interests in preventive care and dentistry! When Dr. Carman is not at Canyon Creek, she leads an active life with her big, fluffy Great Pyrenees mix, Harold; enjoying runs, hiking, playing volleyball, baking, and spending time with her friends!
